My 5 year old twins did not know how to tie their shoes, so I avoided buying them lace-up shoes. However, I realized the importance of hand and eye coordination that comes from tying shoelaces, so I surprised my kids with some lace-up shoes. Early on there was some resistance, but with the help of One, Two, Tie My Shoe, my kids looked forward to the challenge of tying their own shoes without mom's help.
